  • Why franchise ownership?
  • I liked that there was an established base with proven processes and procedures that would prevent wasting resources to “reinvent the wheel.”
  • Most rewarding part of franchise ownership:
  • Having control of my own destiny. It’s hard work, but allows for flexibility in hours and more time with my family.
  • Advice for aspiring franchise owners:
  • Follow the established process to grow the business and be successful. Hire the right people by focusing on personality fit as much as qualifications.
  • What are you most excited about for the future of your franchise?
  • The ability to “own the home” and leverage existing homeowner relationships.

Chris’ Story

Chris Dorris longed for the days when he owned his own business. After learning about opportunities online, he realized his custom homebuilding background and his wife Tresa’s interior design experience made ShelfGenie® a natural fit. In 2019, he purchased an existing franchise — ShelfGenie of the Coastal South, which was located in an area the couple wanted to live — and together they launched a new venture to serve customers in Charleston, SC; Savannah, GA; and Jacksonville and Orlando in Florida.

Chris says the Neighborly expertise and resources available are miles beyond what independent businesses can access. “Having owned non-franchise business in the past allows me to truly appreciate the benefits of a franchise family,” he says.
