It’s an extension of their family, their values, and the life they want to build together. From the moment they met the Lawn Pride team during their initial visit, they knew they’d found something special. “We chose Lawn Pride because of the exciting culture—the family atmosphere that [the brand President] brought to that first meeting,” Engel shares. “It just felt right.”
What drew them in became clearer as they learned more. Lawn Pride offered a business model that was simple, proven, and built on services Brian already loved providing: lawn fertilization, weed control, and vertical lawn care. “We’ll do that all day long,” he says with a grin.
In Charlotte, their operation runs lean just Brian and one full-time technician. But that small team covers an impressive amount of ground, serving customers quickly and efficiently. “You can get started fast,” Brian explains. “One talented individual can serve a lot of customers.” That scalability, paired with the satisfaction of seeing clear results from their work, made Lawn Pride a perfect fit.
But what they’re building isn’t just a business. It’s a source of pride for their entire family. Brian lights up when he talks about the progress they’ve made and he wants his team to share in that excitement. “When we win awards or hit big milestones, it’s not just for me and Engel,” he says. “It’s for the whole team. It’s something we’ve built together.”
Engel sees the impact every day. “He leaves home happy and excited to get to work,” she says. “And he comes home happy and eager to tell us about his day. We get to be part of that.” What started as Brian’s passion has grown into a true family business, one their children proudly share in. Seeing the Lawn Pride logo at school events, church functions, or baseball fields brings them joy and a deep sense of community. “You become part of something,” Engel says. “And that brings a lot of pride.”
This couple’s journey didn’t begin with Lawn Pride. Brian’s background in the green industry goes way back and includes earlier experience with The Grounds Guys®. Over the years, he’s leveraged every skill, every tool, and every bit of knowledge to grow into the leader he is today. But his goals have evolved. “I used to think that by 30, if I wasn’t a multimillionaire, something was wrong,” he admits. “Now I realize the real reason I’m doing this is to be a great father, a great spouse, to have faith, and to be a good example.” That shift has brought him more joy than he expected.
For the Balzers, success starts with culture knowing why they’re doing what they do. “It doesn’t have to be fancy,” Brian says. “Just ask yourself: Why are you in this business? Why’d you buy a franchise? Build off of that. Everything else will fall into place like dominoes.”
For their family, Lawn Pride has done exactly that—creating purpose, connection, and a future built on pride.
