From A Decades-Long Corporate Career to Personal Flexibility Through Franchise Ownership

After more than three decades in corporate leadership, David Allen reached a point where he wanted something different.

He had spent his entire career working for manufacturers, most recently serving as a sales director in the boiler industry. The work was steady, but the long meetings, slow processes, and lack of flexibility left him wanting more control over his day and more joy in his work.

Making a major career shift after so many years was exciting but also intimidating. Yet David knew he was ready for a change. When he discovered Five Star Painting®, something clicked.

In early 2022, he opened Five Star Painting of Dayton and immediately felt the difference.

With decades of customer-facing experience, David felt well prepared for this new venture. “All of the different things I did throughout my career prepared me,” he says. He participates in a peer group where everyone brings different experiences, allowing them to help one another solve challenges. “A lot of times we solve each other’s problems because we have either gone through it now or previously,” he explains. This sense of community quickly became one of the most valuable parts of his journey.
